Evidence Based Teaching

Evidence-based Teaching is uses "validated evidence" to select, develop, and implement educational strategies based on research to define define educational practices. It is important because:
  • Synthesized findings that result from pedagogical research help to develop the specific body of knowledge related to education
  • Educators who base their teaching strategies on evidence found that better and more consistent learning outcomes are achieved
  • Evidence-based teaching strategies can be replicated by other educators and further refined, thus adding to the existing knowledge base
  • As findings are replicated and disseminated, 'best practices' emerge to guide educators in selecting teaching strategies and designing learning environments to meet students' needs
